3 Benefits Of Walking In Cold Weather

When the sun goes away, it’s easy to wait for another day.

But walking in cold weather has just as many benefits as going for a stroll on a shining Summers day.

The benefits of the Summer Sun and the Wintery crisp cold are obviously not identical.

They do differ but have the same positive outcomes which relate to better mental and physical health.

Walking in the cold weather, as you can imagine is not usually pleasant to begin with. But walk for 10/15 minutes and you soon start to warm up.

1. Increased Blood Flow

Your body starts to shiver and regulate body temperature to achieve homeostasis (Normal body temperature of 37c) which makes the blood pump faster and increases the strength of the heart.

Shivering is just the muscles tightening and relaxing in quick succession. Effectively the muscles are being put into action as if you were exercising!

2. Clearer Thinking

Walking outdoors gives you mental clarity that can not be achieved from being indoors for too long and extended periods.

A study from 2013 states that when the temperature is cold, clearer thinking is even more possible then when it is warm.

Double the reason to get outside and get some fresh air even when it is freezing outside. Don’t forget your gloves!

3. Increases Brown Fat

Increases fat? How is that a benefit? Well, let me explain further.

Brown fat can be described as good fat and is full with iron-rich mitochondria. Once it is activated in a process called thermogenesis it actually burns calories. Read more about Brown Fat.

Walking is not just for sightseeing strolls across the hillsides in Summer. There are wonderful views and different scenery to look at in a variety of different weather conditions.

Now packed with this new information, these walks might just feel a bit more manageable when it might be easier to sit inside by the TV.

But taking the easy option is not for people who read these articles. We are looking for growth, education and becoming the very best we can in this one life.
