How To Deal With Adversity

It is inevitable that adversity will come along into our lives.

Whether that be an ending of relationship, tough situations at work or a whole host of other problems that can happen in day to day life.

The importance of these situations can not be undermined for our own personal growth and strength.

If there are no problems to solve, we begin to create them for ourselves which is human nature. We are processed to progress and solve issues.

Your perception of the problem can be a huge factor in how you overcome each one. If you see a problem as a challenge and lean towards it rather than away from it then you can become unstoppable.

How can you be defeated if you enjoy the challenges?

The alternative is to live a mediocre life, swerving problems and avoiding all confrontations. Never growing and remaining the same person you were 10 years ago or even 1 year ago. This is a waste of your mental resources and your potential.

Whenever I used to have adversity in my life, my initial reaction was to freeze and hope it works itself out. Let it pass. But I was missing great opportunities to learn and become a stronger person from it.

Now, I look at the problem in the face. Use my self awareness and be honest with myself.

Nobody is going to do it for me. Not my family, my friends, strangers, God, nobody.

What can I do to change this?

It is up to me and only me to change the situation and be able to look back and be proud of myself for how I acted and take lessons from it.

My Dad wasn’t around much when I was younger and this taught me to fend for myself. That nobody could protect me, only me. That I’m alone in this world and that’s ok.

I have suffered a lot of pain in my life upto now but the wisdom, stoicism and strength I have gained from dealing with hardships has turned me into the man I wanted to be and be there for me when I was a child.

If it wasn’t for the journey and facing up to my adversity and spells of anxiety and depression, I could easily feel sorry for myself and live in hope that everything will be ok.

Now I decide if my situation is good enough for me or not. And if it isn’t then I will change it.

Take control of your life.

Face your adversity. This will seem the wrong thing to do at first, but the peace of mind and growth you will gain will be priceless.

One last thing.

The last time you felt like was the be all and end all moment, how do you feel about it now?

Are you glad it happened so you could become who you are now?

Or are you still stuck living in the past full of regret?

Life is short. Don’t get stuck overthinking and bothering with the what if’s.

Lean towards your problems, face them head on and you will become unstoppable in every sense.
